The short answer

Start with the approved installation and compare it with what is actually installed. Technical compatibility and permission to change the connection are separate checks; neither follows automatically from buying a suitable battery.

Start with the system you have

An upgrade looks simple when it is described as another row of panels or a larger battery. The useful starting point is the complete installation: equipment, electrical design, operating modes and connection documents. A new component can change how the whole system behaves.

The EAC applications page lists current RES and storage guides alongside earlier scheme documents. Use the documents for the relevant project and application date. A guide attached to a neighbour's older net-metering installation is not a substitute for your own terms.

Build a short equipment record

  • Photograph the inverter label and record its exact model and rated power.
  • List the panel model, quantity and total installed DC capacity.
  • Record existing battery models, nominal capacity and installation dates.
  • Collect the connection terms, electrical diagram, inspection records and any later amendments.

If a document is missing, say so. A clear gap is easier to resolve than an assumption that a previous contractor must have completed everything. Keep the equipment list with the installation documents so future changes can be checked against the same record.

Separate compatibility from approval

A battery must work with the inverter's electrical and control requirements. The wider review also covers protection, power limits, backup circuits and the proposed operating mode. EAC states that a network connection process must be under the responsibility of an electrician licensed in Cyprus.

Ask the designer to identify any application, inspection or updated connection terms needed for the proposed change. “Zero Export” describes an operating limit; it should not be treated as a universal exemption from the property’s applicable requirements.

Compare upgrade proposals on the same basis

Request a list showing what stays, what is replaced and what is added. Ask whether the price includes necessary electrical alterations, configuration, monitoring and the agreed paperwork. The backup description should identify supported circuits and power limits, rather than simply saying “battery included”.

For an initial review, send UNLIMITED equipment-label photographs, available documents, recent bills and the outcome you want: evening use, backup or EV charging. Our solar upgrade service starts with that assessment. The new-system calculator can illustrate storage choices, but it cannot price the changes to an installation it has not inspected.
